Pakistan Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (PSBMB) is one of the oldest professional body of the country. It was established in 1965 by the renowned scientists Professor M.I.D.Chughtai as founder President and Prof Ataur Rehman as its General Secretary. Ever since its establishment the Society has been active in the promotion of the field of biochemistry, molecular biology and biotechnology. The Society activities in the recent past are summarized below.
PSBMB is an active member of the international organizations like International Union of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (IUBMB) and Federation of Asian and Oceanian Biochemists and Molecular Biologists (FAOBMB). In order to retain its membership of these bodies the Society subscribes US $ 1000 per year to IUBMB and US $ 400 to FAOBMB. The 26th conference of FAOBMB is due to be held at Kobe, Japan during 6-9 December, 2017, while 24th IUBMB Congress is due to be held in June 4-8, 2018 at Seoul, Korea.

The PSBMB supports and organizes symposia, seminars and workshops at different places in Pakistan. One of such meetings has been “Trends and Prospects in Molecular Biosciences” organized during 23-24 October, 2017 at Institute of Biochemistry and Biotechnology (IBB) University of the Punjab, Lahore to commemorate its 20th Anniversary. The Society supported the activities of this event financially as well scientifically. It was a highly successful meeting with Prof. Atta-ur-Rahman chairing the inaugural session of the conference. Scientists from USA and all over Pakistan participated in this conference.
Society can contribute more effectively only if adequate funding is made available. The current resources of the Society are very meager. The Society looks forward to a major funding fro the organizations like Pakistan Science Foundation, Higher Education Commission, etc.
